For the end of the year we were suppose to accomplish a random act of kindness that we wrote on a piece of paper. Mine was to talk to my cousin, Anna, over the phone and just talk with her because I don't talk to her very much and I don't see her very often because of distance. She is about 12 years old and has epilepsy. it is hard when I see her because she thinks that I'm her friend, she doesn't quit understand yet that I'm her cousin also.

If you were in a fight with you daughter's mother over child support and custody. Would you throw your 4-year-old off a 120-foot cliff?
My opinion is that he should have never done what he did. I believe that he wouldn't of had to go to the extremes of basically, killing his daughter. Just because he didn't have the money or just didn't want to pay it doesn't mean it's the daughters fault. I think that it was right for him to have time in prison, but when they were thinking about giving him a death penalty. I don't think that was right because thats for people who have really bad crimes. Personally, I don't think that they should have stopped to get a bit to eat. They needed to respect the veteran, the family, and other former veterans. When they are leading a funeral, the veteran should not have been a second thought. They needed to respect the family and other veterans. After watching the video, I still think that they still should not have stopped to get a bit to eat. It is just not right, when you are leading a funeral service, you should respect the family and have it all about them.
Personally, I think that they just need to drop the case. I don't think that it was right to sue the school for $50,000 over a dress. On Newseum when Jacqueline says, "I wanted to show part of my Southern heritage," she could have expressed it in another way. I believe that in some situations the school has the right to have a say in what not to wear. If it is to keep their students safe. It was the administrators decision on what to do about her wearing the dress. If they believe that she could get hurt in some sort of violence, they have all the rights to tell her to change. Therefore, I believe that the school has every right to tell her to change because if she does cause an arguments or violence the school has to be responsible to keep her and other students safe. I also see how it is offensive to the minorities because of slavery.

Liesel was not even able to read or write her own name which made her want to learn the the new skills that are very important. The first book she read was, “The Gravedigger’s Handbook” which gave her courage to learn words, their meanings, and reading alone. It was the book that she got when her brother died. She wanted to know if it had anything to do with her brother. She later found out that it had nothing to do with her brother, but she kept reading. Liesel’s, “Papa,” Hans, put the chalkboard in the basement, so she could understand and write better. Which also gave her courage to learn. 2. How does Liesel’s new “Papa,” Hans, encourage her to read? What role does his unusual “dictionary” play in Liesel’s quest to learn to read? Hans was a tremendous influence on Liesel and her reading. He was the one who helped, when she started reading. Hans also helped her learn words that she did not know. Hans made her a wall in the basement were she could write the words that she needed to learn which helped encourage her to read. She had to read to be able to fill up the wall, so she could find words she did not know. Therefore, Hans was a major influence when he helped Liesel learn how to read and write. 3. Liesel’s new mother, Rosa, is initially quite stern with her. How does their relationship evolve through the course of the story? I believe that Rosa was so stern because she wanted to make sure she was raising Liesel right. I also would say another reason she was so stern was because she was mad that she was getting paid for taking car of one child not two. I think it makes it hard for Liesel to love Rosa because it is not her real mom and Rosa is very stern. Their relationship between each other kept improving throughout the movie. Rosa grew to like Liesel, I think that is because her mother side in her finally came into effect. 4. How does Liesel’s friendship with her neighbor Rudy become a transformative relationship for her? When Liesel and Ruby first met they didn’t really know what to really think of each other. Once they got to know each other a little better, they were really good friends. Rudy was very nice to Liesel which was good for the both of them. They were best friends, he was the only one she could talk to about her things that were happening in her life. I felt like the relationship between the two of them got a little serious at the end. 5. Even after Liesel learns how to read, her new housemate Max tells her she has much to learn about really observing the things around her. What’s the difference between reading and observing (or understanding)? I believe that when you read you learn things that are important, but when you start to observe different things start to happen in real life. It has more of an impact on you, rather than you just reading it. You can also think about it like, observing can be like inferring in between the lines. Then reading is also just reading the words. When you observe it makes you think about things more and in detail. Personally, I would say that it is using your imagination when you observe. 7. Death says he rarely gets involved in the lives of those he ultimately takes, but he does take an interest in Liesel and her circumstances. Why does he find Liesel so exceptional? I believe, Death found Liesel so exceptional because she was a very amazing, young lady, and that she was unique. I think he loves the way that she loves the books and has the motivation to learn. They both now that you are going to die someday. So, he waits for her so that she can live a full life. Death didn’t want her to go because she was so different from all the others. Like I said she was unique to him. 12. THE BOOK THIEF is now a movie, and cinema has its own kind of power, which can also be life-changing or at least inspiring. What movies have inspired you? I have never really been inspired by movies, but their was one that opened my eyes. God’s NOT Dead is a very good movie. It proved a really good point in the movie when the instructor and student got into an argument. It showed how real it is. God is always there even though you may not think he is. This very bizarre insect that has an outstanding exterior. Which has the ability to camouflage into a variety of trees and bushes in the rainforest. Entomology is the field of study people go into if they want to study insects. My friend Brad is one, so I thought it would be cool to go surprise him at work since it had been forever since I had seen him. Before I even say him I had heard a very tumult sound. It freaked me out a little. So, when I did surprise him I asked him what insect that sound came from. When he showed me I was amazed since it came from such a small insect. He then started to give me some cool facts about the insect. The one fun fact that I remember the most was that it is a very voracious insect, I could not believe it since it is so petite. The cousin to this insect lives in the tundra and it is white. When Brad told me that I thought he was joking, since he knows I am so gullible, I still can’t get over the fact that an insect so tiny can live in such a brutal environment.

Is it just to punish juveniles as adults?
Personally, I don't think that it is fair to treat juveniles as adults because they are still growing. Their brain is still maturing. Sometimes you get accused for doing something that you were forced to. My opinion is that demographics determine a lot with what you do in your teen years. I agree with the author of "Books through Bars" when they said that juveniles and adults should not be deprived from reading books. To conclude, life is never fair. The Nike shoe in the picture above explains the personality and behavior of Clay Jensen. He is very covert person, he does not like people to know what he is truly doing. I would say Clay is a very plain person.
Life is not a dress rehearsal.
No Pain. No Gain. Mistakes are doorways to discovery. If you never make mistakes you will never get better in my eyes. Your going to just think that you are the best and you have nothing to work on. For example, in school you get a 'A' on a test and you didn't even study for it, so you just think that you will never have to study for anything because your just that smart. Your never done trying to be successful in life. You can always get better, there is no such thing as perfect. When in doubt... mumble. I was ten years old, fighting for freedom. It was ‘D-Day’, May 2, 1963. We knew it was coming but didn’t know when. I went to school, thinking about freedom. I was so excited, I had a feeling I wouldn’t be coming home. Before I left to school my momma told me not to go, if today happened to be ‘D-Day’, I told her I heard her. We grew up being taught not to lie, that is why I had said I heard her, I wasn’t lying about anything. I never said I wasn’t going to go. At 11 that day I saw it was time to go everyone started climbing out windows when the teacher turned her back, leaving school ready to go march. Soon, there was hundreds of kids walking up to 18 miles, just to go to Birmingham, Alabama, to march for freedom and get arrested, one of them was me. Everyone gathered at, Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, people were going in all doors of the church it seemed like a waterfall of people. We were ready to fight! Us kids were not going to sit back and let the whites rule us. All my friends and me wanted freedom. Just in the first day of the march 973 children were arrested. Martin Luther King, had told our parents that us kids were going to be fine, he told them if we want to go to jail don’t hold us back. He even said that we were doing a job for all of Americans and all man kind. Are parents still did not want us to go back and march for the second and third days after hearing that by MLK. It was day two now of ‘D-Day’ no one knew what was happening there was police lined up, they started spraying us with fire hoses. They were aiming at our heads, we got knocked down, the pressure of the water was hard, it hurt. The water was so powerful that four men could hardly hold it. They started calling us names, throwing rocks at us, and arresting us as fast as they could. By the end of day two 1,922 of us were arrested. The photos that were taking on day two made President Kennedy, sick. That is how bad it was that day, it was very painful, but if we didn’t do anything about it now we would be suffering the rest of our lives. I saw some kids so excited to get out of jail, that they would turn around and go right back. My momma told me to stay out of jail, because they were going to hurt us, but it was my choice to do so. By day three there was 4,163 people arrested. Once we were in jail it got depressing, you would see rats run across the floor, they would only give you one bologna sandwich with nothing else on it and with dry bread! They asked almost all the kids the same questions. They asked if we were forced to march, why did we march, and other various questions like that. I saw some kids in the jail next to me that couldn’t even say freedom! Later Kennedy, gave a speech and said, “Violence only breeds more violence.”
http://www.newser.com/story/136716/staten-island-bullying-victim-amanda-cummings-commits-suicide.html What stands out to you the most about the Jim Crow laws? How do you believe laws like this could have been enforced for nearly 100 years?
The one thing that stood out to me and that I do not understand, is how the whites think that blacks are such bad people. For instance, black people had to sit in the back of the bus, use different restrooms than the white people, and use different drinking fountains. Whites thought that blacks would spread diseases, seriously we are all humans we can all spread diseases. Personally, I think that they were able to enforce these laws for nearly 100 years is because children grew up with this segregation happening and they know no different. White children just thought it was normal. Whites thought that they were the best people in the world, because they could rule anyone and everyone. In your community do you see any lingering effects of these laws or segregation? I don’t see much at all or no segregation in our community. Most of the time I see little kids to high schoolers during the week so I don’t see much. The majority of our school is white, but there are some minorities. I would say though that most of the minorities are treated the same at our school. I think that the people in our school are very understanding and know that we are all the same. I really hope that our school stays like this because people who are racist are not nice and have nothing else better to do except make racist comments. How is Hilly’s Home Help Sanitation Initiative influenced by the Jim Crow laws? Hilly’s Home Help Sanitation Initiative was influence by the Jim Crow laws, because the laws were supporting segregation which made everything worse all around. The whites did not like when there maids used their bathrooms. The whites thought that they would spread diseases. Hilly’s Home Help Sanitation Initiative was a plan to make maids their own bathrooms. I would say that the Jim Crow laws were majorly a big influence on, Hilly’s Home Help Sanitation Initiative. How does Skeeter respond to Hilly’s insistence to print the Home Help Sanitation Initiative in the Junior League newsletter? Skeeter does not agree with Hilly on what she said she wanted to put in the newsletter. Skeeter believed the African Americans should be treated the same as whites, but Hilly believes the African Americans can not be trusted and carry diseases. Therefore, Hilly supports segregation. Skeeter was not going to print Hilly’s initiative in the newsletter, if herself did not agree with it. Hilly’s initiative stated, drop old coats off at Hilly’s, so instead of putting that Skeeter put, drop off old commodes at Hilly’s house. When Hilly noticed all the old commodes, she got extremely upset and had a hissy fit in front of everyone. Hilly and the other women in the Junior League are all fairly wealthy and college-educated women. Celia Rae Foote is from Sugar Ditch, a very poor area of Mississippi, and is not received well by the other women. Kathryn Stockett, the author of The Help, said "I wanted to create a character who's so poor that they're beyond prejudice." What do you believe Stockett means by this statement? Do you believe that this statement is accurate? Personally, I think that the author did a very nice job in creating the character and was very accurate. I think the statement Stockett makes means that Celia is so poor she doesn’t care what color you are. Celia just wants help and wants people to talk to and be around. I also think it was the way she was raised, not having the mom or dad, having a maid raise you. She saw everyone to be equal, she didn’t care what color you were, partially because how she was raised. Dear Hungry in Houston,
Here is a fantastic go to meal when you are at home with little time on your hands. Grilled Cheese sandwiches are very easy to make. First you get the griddle out along with bread, butter, and sliced cheese. Then you would butter up the bread on both sides and place the slices on the griddle. After you have buttered the bread, place the cheese on to the bread, that is on the griddle. Then put another slice of buttered bread on top. Flip the whole sandwich until each side is a golden brown. As a side dish take a can of tomato soup and heat it up in a pan on the stove. This way you have a perfect meal and can dip the Grilled Cheese sandwich in the soup if you prefer or eat them separate. Sincerely, Ms. Myrna If you had to pick someone you know to be President, who would you pick and why?
If I had to chose who I wanted to be president it would be a family friend Duane. He is very smart and has very good work ethic. He likes to have some fun, but when there is work to do he does it. Even if it means staying up all night so he can move on the next day. He nows a little about a lot of things. If he doesn't like the way you are doing things, he will tell you. If you had to wear one t-shirt for the rest of your life (your whole life!), what t-shirt would you wear? What color would it be? What would be on it? Why this shirt not another? (Of course, for the sake of the prompt, let's pretend that this shirt always stays clean and never falls apart or anything like that...) I would have to pick a t-shirt to wear the rest of my life it would be a nike t-shirt. It would be black with a big multi colored nike swoosh on the front. Then on the back I would have 'JUST DO IT' that is multi colored too. I would pick this shirt because it would look cool. That would probably be the only reason I would wear it. I don't really have any specific shirt that I totally love. Which would you rather have a rewind button for you life or a pause button? Make your case for your choice or explain what would do with it. (Narrative option: tell a story in which a character gets to have a pause button or a rewind button. (or gets to make that choice)) If I had a choice, I would have a pause button. I say that because when you are having the time of your life you could pause it and experience it as long as you want. I would never want to rewind a moment and change things because then you are changing what God had planned for you. Another reason is you could like pause until you got an assignment done so you could do your best on it. If you could pause you could have more time to remember the most exciting things that will ever happen in your life. Which three of these skills are the most important for success in life? Why these? (Patience/Common Sense/ Humor/ Courage/ Creativity/ Resourcefulness/ Work Ethic/ Organization/ Integrity/ Pride/ Responsibility/ Flexibility/ Compassion/ Love) Worth Ethic, Organization, and Responsibility. First of you need to love what you do because it affects your work ethic. You always need to stay on task and get as much done as you can. Organization is another key thing to have because if you are trying to find something last minute and you loose it, that can be really bad. You always want to make sure you have everything and that you don't have two things going on at once. Responsibility goes hand and hand with organization because usually if you are organized you are responsible. You need to be able to do your own part and make decisions on your own. 1. Is there any cause/purpose you would march or risk being arrested to fight for?
Yes there are some causes I would march for and risk myself being arrested for. Most of them being related to my belief and what I have been taught. I would not march for something that I do not know much about. I say that because I would not want to be arrested for something that I did not know both sides of the cause. I do not need to be tangled up in a bad situation that maybe was actually good for our country or people. Also you have to think about if it is worthwhile or beneficial. 2. Why do you think the Children's March was so effective? I think that the children's march was so effective because there was so many people fighting for the blacks rights. It was not just adults it was little kids and teenagers fighting for equal rights. Thats was a huge shocker for me because little kids are suppose to be having fun not having to worry about having equal rights. This puts stress on little kids and little kids should not have stress. It also was really effective when the kids where happy to receive the consequence of going to jail because if they were scared it would have made people just thing that oh they are just stupid kids that don't know what they are doing. 3. How would your parents react if you were arrested for supporting your beliefs? I think that my parents would stand behind me and encourage me. At the same time I don't think that they would stand behind me in everything because sometimes young kids make stupid decision and that is just part of growing up. You have to learn sometime. I think that they would try and talk to me if they thought that what I was doing wrong. It is good to have those talks because your parents may know something you don't know that may change your mind. Your decisions also reflect back on your parents. They will always encourage me to go out into the world and express my opinion on what my beliefs are. Dear Diary, I read this article today, it really stood out to me. Personally, I think it is very funny when little kids say things they don't mean to say. In the article linked above it talks about how little kids say some of the racist things. Its not the little kids fault because sometime they can't say the word correctly, so it comes out as a bad word. Adults need to understand that these little kids are not trying to be mean or hurt your feeling about your color of skin, you should know by now that everyone is the same and that you need to live your life to the fullest. Just because white people think that blacks can't be doctors, doesn't mean that they are right or they are way better than you. Anyone can achieve anything, if you work hard enough. Bound: Restrict.
